UGLARE Fog Lamp installation steps

Folks, here is a write-up for the installing / upgrading fog lamps for your Jimny. This write up is for installing the UGLARE Fog lamps which come with a High/Low Beam as well as a pair of spot lamps integrated in the same unit.

A wiring harness for Spot lamps is needed for the below setup and can be purchased from https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-h8_fog_lamp_wiring_harness_with_12v_40a_relay-58280207/

From the pictures of the harness it seems it will fit and the switch also looks to be compatible, however please buy at your own risk. I bought the harness from my accessories person as he had it already.

If you buy this harness then please do report back if the switch fits propwrly in the slots next to the headlamp leveler switch in the blank slots.

Or a similar harness can be bought from your local accessories shop.

Wiring Diagram for fog Lamps in Alpha variant. This uses a wire harness to connect the Spot Lamps with relay and switch. Following is the process to install this setup.

  1. Remove Car Grill.
  2. Remove Front Bumper.
  3. Remove old Fog lamps.
  4. Install new UGLARE fog lamps.
  5. Connect the original car fog lamp coupler to the new fog lamp coupler. This will power the low beams of the UGLARE fog lamps.
  6. There is a single Yellow Color Wire in the UGLARE Fog Lamps, this wire is for the Spot Lamps and when power is given to this Yellow wire then the Spot Lamps and the Low and High Beam of the UGLARE fog Lamps both turn on. So basically all 3 lights turn on.
  7. The Yellow wires of both fog lamps have to be connected to the new wire harness one on each side (Cut off the couplers of the new harness) and join the Yellow wires to the respective harness wires (Positive Ends) by twisting and then applying electrical insulation tape), on the other end the wire harness will be connected to the High Beam Fuse in the fuse box next to the battery using a fuse tap.
  8. The UGLARE Fog Lamps have a pair of thin black and Red Wires, these are wires which move the projector shutter for switching between Low and High Beam. The positive wire (Red) from this pair has to be connected to the same High Beam Fuse in the engine compartment alongwith the Yellow wires in step 7 above.
  9. Put back the bumper and grill.
  10. Test the Lights. Testing Procedure given below.

Testing Procedure

  1. All lights off and ignition also off, Fog Lamp switch installed on dashboard is switched on. Fog Lamp Ring on Indicator Stalk is also switched on. Flash the dipper using the headlight stalk. Result: Main headlamps of car (Highbeam) and full fog lamps (Low/High and spots) should come on. This is your MadMax mode which will blind anyone in front. Once you leave the dipper all lights swith off.
  2. Car headlights on at Low Beam position, Fog Lamp ring switch turned to on positions and Fog Lamp switch on dashboard on or off. The car headlamp low beam will turn on the fog lamp low beam.
  3. Car headlights on at high beam position, Fog lamp ring switch turned to on position and fog lamp switch on dashboard turned off. The high beam of fog lamps will turn on alongwith main headlamp high beam.
  4. Car headlights on at high beam position, Fog lamp ring switch turned to on position and fog lamp switch on dashboard turned on. The high beam of fog lamps and the two Spot Lamps of fog lamps will turn on alongwith main headlamp high beam.

If you have any question, please feel to ask in this same thread and I will try to answer.

Thanks for the write up, @Traveler

Question : can we not have high beam on HL and low beam on Uglare at same time?

The Fog lamps will follow the main headlamps trajectory. However when you are on high beam the fog lamps are on with both high and low beams together. This is same as the headlamps behaviour as well.

When you switch on the high beam in a projector setup it basically opens a shutter inside the projector to make the light beam go higher. There is no separate bulb for low and high beam.

This is also true for the stock LED projector headlamps in the Alpha Jimny.
